God's Dwelling Within Us
Reflect
"Whoever loves me will keep my word, and my Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our dwelling with them." (John 14:23)
Meditate
This is a simple yet powerful promise from the Word of God; one that is familiar, yet deeply meaningful.
Think of a room filled with light. We immediately know that a bulb is shining; a room cannot light itself. That light brings hope and warmth, making the space welcoming to others. It cannot be contained—it naturally shines outward through every opening.
In the same way, when we live out the Word of God, His light shines through us. That light draws people not by force, but by its very nature. Just as bees are drawn to flowers for their sweetness, people are drawn to the light of God present in a life that reflects Him. The world is looking for that.
St. Paul reminds us that we are the "fragrance of Christ." What is this fragrance? It is the fruit of the Holy Spirit—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Can people associate with me able to experience this fragrance? (2 Cor 2:15)
Jesus teaches that He and the Father are one (John 10:30), and we know that the Spirit dwells in Him and raised Him from the dead (Rom 8:11). The Holy Trinity is always in perfect communion.
And this is the invitation: Jesus calls us into that same communion. By keeping His Word, we open our hearts to Him. Then, as He promises, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—the "We"—will come and dwell within us.
Act
- Choose one teaching of Christ today and consciously live it out.
- Allow the "light" of your life—your words, actions, and attitudes—to shine so others may experience God through you.
- Pray daily for the fruits of the Holy Spirit to grow in you.
- Seek deeper communion with God by spending time in His Word and in quiet prayer.
